Nisswa, Minnesota, is a small Northern Minnesota town that many people just LOVE to stop by on their way through while traveling north or south on MN Hwy 371.
Located just north of Brainerd, Minnesota, Nisswa gives you a good idea of what Northern Living would be like if one chooses to leave the hustle and bustle of the city and move to a small town.
Nisswa may be a small northern Minnesota town, but it’s a small town that specializes in big taste for attracting locals day after day as well as the thousands of people who flock to the Brainerd Lakes Area every summer (as well as some during the winter months) to enjoy the many area hiking, biking, camping, fishing, hunting, and skiing opportunities to be found in Minnesota.
Nisswa is a favorite tourist stop not only because of the great fishing lakes in the area, but also because of the great home cooked Minnesota meals to be found there – the meals known to hook the visitors and keep them coming back for more time and again.
You can whet your appetite with a nice burger and fries, a tasty pizza, a juicy steak, loads of fresh fish cooked just about every way you can imagine, and much, much more!
There is a nice variety of different shops in Nisswa for the serious shopper searching for Souvenirs and Novelty items, Northwoods Clothing items such as heavy and light Jackets, Sweatshirts, Tee Shirts, Shorts, Hats, Purses, Shoes, Boots, and more.

When I was a little girl, I had come to the Brainerd area during the summer months and had frequently stopped at Nisswa a few times and had always made it a point to stop by a Souvenir/Novelty Shop called the Totem Pole.
Imagine my delight when I went back to Nisswa years later after having children of my own to find that the Totem Pole was still open to the public after so many years!
The Totem Pole is still a favorite of ours even today and we make it a point to stop and shop there whenever we are in the Nisswa area.
You can find anything from candy to jewelry to candles to toys to souvenirs to shirts and jackets to moccasins and leather boots – all in this little ‘Up North’ shop that will delight you with its Northwoods Atmosphere and fun Decor.
If you are looking to have a fun but relaxed family outing for the day, be sure to check out this quaint little town whenever you find yourself traveling through the Brainerd Lakes Area of Minnesota.
